Sandylands Methodist Church is passionate about engaging with its community, sharing the Love of God in word and deed.
Our Community Worker, Jonny Gios engages with lots of community projects along with other volunteers from the church. Here are some initiatives we are involved in.
Schools: We have good links with our primary schools and local secondary school. These include; Stramongate School, Castle Park ( where Jonny is a Governor ), Sandgate School and Queen Katherine High School.
Housing: Over the next few months our estate of Sandylands will grow by 200 extra houses. Much needed affordable housing is coming online as well as other housing stock. We have taken this opportunity to welcome our new residents with home made welcome bags with Partnership with St Georges’ Church. Our population on Sandylands will increase to approx 500 extra residents.
Sandylands Playground: Jonny is part of the Sandylands Residents Association. The residents have started fund raising towards a new community park. We have just received £20,000 from SLDC and need another £80,000 to refurbish the park for all ages and for those with disabilities. We meet every term as a Residents Association at Cornerstone. Our next meeting is Thursday 23rd October, 7pm.
Sandylands Hayton Cut Through: As part of our Hope community project this year we painted a very scruffy wall called ‘Hayton’s cut through’. We successfully painted this and now are looking at funding and plans to use this space for a community arts project.
